The Pender Long Term Recovery Group to host a 2021 Disaster Preparedness Expo.

The Pender Long Term Recovery Group invites residents to attend the upcoming 2021 Disaster Preparedness Expo on Saturday July 17, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Joint Community Center located at 17808 NC Highway 210 in Rocky Point, NC.

“We look forward to hosting an upcoming Disaster Preparedness Expo,” states Michelle Green, Pender Long Term Recovery Group Project Coordinator, “The expo will be a great opportunity for Pender County residents to get information on disaster preparedness and sign up for CodeRed Alerts while adding some items to their Disaster To-Go Kit.”

“The Pender LTRG is a long-term recovery group that formed as the result of Hurricane Florence,” states Olivia Dawson, Pender Long Term Recovery Group Co-Chair. “We look forward to serving residents of Pender County assisting with ways to be prepared for the possibility of a next hurricane or disaster in our area.”

“We want Pender residents to ‘Be Prepared, Make a Plan, & Stay Connected,” states Michelle Green, Pender Long Term Recovery Group Project Coordinator. “The Pender Long Term Recovery Group encourages Pender County citizens to continue to prepare for the hurricane season.”

The Disaster Preparedness Expo will include area partners such as the Disability Resource Center, Pender County Emergency Management, and the Pender County Health Department.

The Pender County Health Department will be available to answer questions on the Covid vaccine availability and the special needs registry. Area partners and contributors will supply hurricane preparedness information and literature, Disaster Supply Kit items, and partner rebuilding information.

A Wills Clinic will also be provided by Legal Aid of North Carolina, their Disaster Relief Project.  Pender residents who were impacted by Hurricane Florence and who qualify will be able to speak to an attorney to get assistance to create a will, health care and financial powers of attorney, and more prepared for their family. Advance signup is preferred.

The Salvation Army will be on site with their Cantina providing snacks and hotdogs to those in attendance. Attendees can also look to win various raffle items and preparedness supplies.

The Pender LTRG is composed of non-profits, faith-based organizations, and charitable organizations who work in union to meet the unmet needs of Pender County Residents impacted by disaster. The Pender LTRG works in collaboration with other organizations to assess needs, offer resources, and ensure that residents are assisted.
